Musical Ambassadors of Peace
is partnering with the 2018 Boulder International Film Festival in presenting:
LIYANA is a story born in the imaginations of five orphaned children in the Kingdom of Swaziland. The film follows the children, Zweli, Sibusiso, Phumlani, Mkhuleko, and Nomcebo, as they collaborate to tell the
original tale of Liyana, a fictional character whose early life bears remarkable similarities to their own. The world that the children imagine for Liyana is brought to life in an innovative style of animated artwork. This hybrid film weaves documentary scenes together with the animated adventure.
Friday, February 23rd, 2:30 pm.
Boulder First Presbyterian Church 1820 15th Street Boulder, CO
Come for the film and stay for the TalkBack panel to learn about actions you can take to make a difference! DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT LIYANA is a film that gives our young storytellers the stage. We hope
the audience will be enchanted by the children's imaginations in the same way that we are. We believe this film will play a role in deconstructing stereotypes and challenging the prevalent, simplistic narrative of African orphans. LIYANA pays tribute to my childhood in the Kingdom of Swaziland. And at its heart, the film is a meditation on the transformative power of storytelling – an ode to the creative spirit.

El Cajon Project Update
From Ari Hornavar, our Musical Ambassador from
Iran, who is facilitating drum circles for Iraqi, Syrian, and Afghani refugee women, healing from the wounds of war:
"Each session is better than the last
and our group is blossoming in unexpected ways. We have the participants use one word to describe their state of being at the end of each drumming session. I can tell you that "happy" and "love" have been the most recurring words. Given that these women have so much trauma to process and are still in a difficult state of transition, this is a good indicator of the success of our drum circles."
Help us to continue to support Ari
and our other Musical Ambassadors
who are working with the surviving Yazidi women in
Northern Iraq.
