Musical Ambassador of Peace, Ari Honarvar, continues to support the asylum seekers at the US/Mexico border with musical interactions. These are people from many different countries who have fled their homes due to violence and unrest, many escaping with the clothes on their backs. They are not criminals or thieves. They are people with families who are simply looking to live life and be happy. 

Ari travels to the border, offering them her Resilience Through Joy program. She helps them to feel human again, to feel that there might be some hope, to know that someone cares. Ari films only their feet, hands and backs of heads to protect their identity.

"A Mexican woman watched her only daughter slaughtered by bullets and then the gang burned her house down. She was traumatized and barely got out alive. She had burns all over her hands and arms. Another woman couldn't stop crying for her mother who was killed. She said it was interfering with her life and her kids' lives. 

I spent some time individually with both women and did stabilizing and grounding practices together. We took our time until they felt calm and resourced. We then talked about grief and how powerful it can be and about ways they could find support in the shelter and the larger community. We ended with a daily practice they could do on their own." - Ari Honarvar

Boulder Builds Peace

Musical Ambassadors Of Peace will be part of Boulder Rotary's inaugural Peace Week event, Boulder Builds Peace, September 15th through 26th. In recognition of the United Nations International Day of Peace, there will be keynote speakers, discussion panels, a workshop, music and arts, a kids’ passport to peace, a scavenger hunt, and a Peace Fair with many peace-minded organizations participating. We will be performing at the Peace Faire on Sunday, September 22nd!

Pete, Kristina and I will be joined onstage by our friends Jesse Manno, James Hoskins, Dexter Payne and James Messerich. We play at 4:30 on the green just west of the Boulder Main Library on Canyon Blvd. 

There will be some great things going on all week, so be sure to check out the schedule and attend! And if you can come to the Peace Fair on Sunday, remember to bring your dancing shoes and stop by our table and say hello!
