Friends,
Happy United Nations Day! Today marks the anniversary of the day in 1945 when the UN was created. UN Day, celebrated every year, offers the
opportunity to amplify the common agenda of moving beyond global conflict and into global cooperation.
This year’s theme is Nourishing Peace!
Nourishing Young Souls In Uganda
According to Abaho, our Musical Ambassador in Uganda, dancing has become a way of life for the young rescued soldiers. “They like it like food,” he tells us. It is an essential part of them, nourishing them on every level.
It’s no wonder. The physical movements of dance have been shown to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. The
children are able to deal with difficult feelings and release them through the steps and routines learned during the dance. Dancing is also beneficial in increasing self-esteem, boosting confidence and developing social skills.

This
event was held on request of the camp commandant who brought two more rescued Congolese child soldiers to join the group. The children no longer have parents, so they were brought to an orphanage shelter at Kyaka 2 camp. This was a “welcome home” gathering for the two girls.
One of sweetest things in this video is hearing the children singing along. Also,
check out the jingles that the children are wearing on their ankles. It sure looks like fun!
