Friends,
While dancing, singing, and making music with others is good for the soul, it can also have broad reaching effects. It creates joy and connection
which can ripple out into a community bringing lasting change. As we continue to recount the achievements of the past year, we’d like to share with you some of the less obvious ways that joy is rippling out into the broader community in Uganda.
Historically, many male refugees from Rwamwanja Refugee Camp moved back to join rebel groups in Congo. The work of Musical
Ambassadors of Peace, in conjunction with Abaho’s organization, Humanity Heart Charity, has changed this trend.
“Every year at least sixty refugees were joining rebel forces, but in 2020 that number was reduced to fifteen. In 2021 only eight left and this past year we lost only two. We attribute this to the support that your work provides to refugees.
We shall continue to be supportive of your work so that world peace is achieved” - Timothy Kitaka, Commandant Rwamwanja
Gender based violence advocacy cases have dropped because of
the reduced trauma among the refugees who attend the MAP/HHC trauma healing sessions.
“They have started seeing each other as family. We hope you keep these sessions running and at least every weekend.” - OC Station, Rwamwanja Police Station
